Carlton vs Adelaide Betting Tips
Marvel Stadium, Sunday, May 8, 4:40 PM (AEST)
Injuries: David Cuningham, Ed Curnow, George Hewett, Josh Honey, Oscar McDonald, Mitch McGovern, Luke Parks, Marc Pittonet, Liam Stocker (suspended)
George Hewett is still missing with a badly corked calf, while several other first team players remained on the sidelines.
Carlton returned to their rhythm with a 50-point win over North Melbourne, keeping them in the conversation for a top four finish. The Blues have a terrifyingly strong midfield unit and three of the best players in key positions in the league: Jacob Weitering, Charlie Curnow and Harry McKay. The only thing the squad strives for is consistency, so wins against sides like Adelaide are crucial.
Injuries: Ned McHenry (out), Brodie Smith (out), Paul Seedsman, Rory Sloane, Zac Taylor, Riley Thilthorpe
Brodie Smith suffered a nasty concussion last week, while Paul Seedsman’s concussion continues.
After dramatic wins against Richmond and the Western Bulldogs, Adelaide was brought back to earth by GWS last week in a 59-point thrashing. It was a result that will make the crows itching this week to atone for their efforts, but the task is difficult. Taylor Walker’s return has been crucial to Adelaide’s build, as Rory Laird and Ben Keays continue to gain strength in midfield. What the Crows may struggle with this week is containing the elite key forwards Carlton owns.
Carlton won the corresponding game by 10 points last year and has a good history overall against the Crows.
The venue for this match will also benefit the Blues, who know Marvel’s fast track well.
While Adelaide has started the season well, it will take a lot of guts to let their young roster retain the rage in the mid-stage of the year.
Carlton has his sights set on making the top eight, so I foresee a comfortable win here.
$1.90 (2 pieces)
Hately hasn’t set the world on fire since crossing over to Adelaide, but he should be getting more chances at center this week with Rory Sloane out for a year and Matt Crouch left out. He had 17 divestments last time.
Jackson Hately 15+ Divestments (1.90 at TAB)
Kennedy returned to midfield in Hewett’s absence and had 24 divestments against North Melbourne last week. The bull turned 30+ in the first three rounds this year, demonstrating his ability to accumulate.
Matthew Kennedy Most Divestments Group B ($2.50 at TAB)
McKay has scored three or more goals this season and in a comfortable Carlton win, he should score a few at Marvel.
Harry McKay 3+ Goals ($1.75 at TAB)
