Eanes ISD approves budget, raises teacher salary

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Eanes ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved the budget for the 2022-23 school year at its June 21 regular meeting, envisioning pay increases for teachers and staff and adjusting to declining enrollment.

The approved budget includes $211 million in estimated revenues, offset by $212 million in estimated expenses.

“Approximately 85% of our budget is spent on employee salaries and benefits, which is an ongoing challenge, especially in this market,” said Dr. Jeff Arnett, Eanes ISD Superintendent.

Staff retention is a priority as rent and house prices continue to rise. Hourly employees receive a 6% increase.

“Hour workers are hit hard by inflation, so our board has a little more for them in some cases because we know we have to compete with other sectors of the job market,” Arnett says.

Lecturers received a 5% bonus.

“For next year, our board has approved a 5% increase that is based on the midpoint of all salaries for our certified teachers and is in the range of what most other school districts offer,” Arnett said. “Some districts are a little more, some less, but we’re right in the middle and we think there’s a lot of other intangibles.”
