Lil TJay hospitalized, entourage faces gun possession and shooter in jail

On Wednesday morning, the news came that rapper Lil TJay has been shot and is undergoing emergency surgery. Few details were available at the time, but authorities said the incident happened just after midnight in New Jersey.

A press release from the Bergen County NJ Attorney General’s Office provided additional clarity about the circumstances of the shooting. It turns out that Lil TJay, real name Tione Merritt, was the victim of an attempted robbery. Wednesday’s press release said New York’s Mohamed Konate attempted to rob Lil TJay and two members of his entourage Jeffrey Valdez and Antoine Boyd. A shooting followed during the robbery. However, it remains unclear who fired first.

Edgewater Police received several 911 calls alerting them to the shots fired. The shooting took place in a shopping plaza near a Chipotle restaurant. When officers arrived on the scene, they found the rapper with multiple gunshot wounds, but Antoine had a single gunshot wound.

27-year-old faces trial for attempted murder and armed robbery

After an investigation, the police arrested Mohamed in New York. His extradition to New Jersey is pending, according to the release. The 27-year-old faces charges including three counts of attempted first-degree murder and three counts of first-degree armed robbery for the shooting. Mohamed also faces second-degree gun possession for an unlawful purpose, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree certain persons not possessing a firearm, and fourth-degree aggravated assault.

Authorities also arrested Jeffrey and Antoine and charged each with second-degree illegal firearms possession. The men await their first appearance at the Bergen County Jail.

The statement did not provide additional details about Lil TJay’s health. However, the Twitter account of the prosecutor says that one victim is “in critical but stable condition” on Thursday afternoon. TMZ, on the other hand, Lil confirmed TJay was out of surgery and recovering, according to their source.

At the time of publishing, there is still no message from TJay’s social accounts.
