A man involved in a collision in Harpurhey on Thursday night was later found during a search with a handgun and a machete. Officers cornered the man along Rochdale Road, at the gates of Queen’s Park, in the north Manchester city.
The man was arrested after failing to take a breath sample at the scene. He was arrested and his silver VW was searched by officers.
They found a gun – which police later discovered was a blank shot – in his jacket. They then searched his vehicle, where they discovered a passenger-side machete, a slingshot and ball bearings.

Photos show the man being arrested by officers. His car was seized, along with the found items, for further investigation.
An update was shared by GMP’s Traffic page on Thursday evening. It read: “Rochdale Rd, Harpurhey. After an RTC, a man was arrested for failing to provide a breath sample.
“He was found to have this (empty shot) pistol in his jacket. A search of his vehicle found a machete, catapult and ball bearings. Vehicle and items seized for further investigation.”
Police attended another unrelated incident a few yards from here on Thursday night. They set up a cordon in Tavistock Square, off Grangewood Drive, amid unconfirmed reports of a “fight.”
