Melbourne will be the new ‘technology job capital’ with 190,000 local tech workers.
New data from the Tech Council of Australia shows that the sector is much more favorable when it comes to the gender pay gap and is more culturally diverse compared to other sectors.
Kate Pounder, CEO of the Technology Council of Australia, says the industry is one “that could be a real winner for women who want to work in it”.
“It only has half the gender pay gap in other high-paying sectors; it has the highest rates of flexible work in all sectors,” she told Sky News Australia.
“It also creates very interesting jobs where people can come to work and solve interesting problems.
“It’s a great opportunity for women in general.”
Ms Pounder said demand for tech industry jobs during the pandemic was “turbocharged” as businesses digitized during lockdowns.
“That ensured that – in the first year of the pandemic alone – 65,000 new tech jobs were created.”
