What To Know: Wildfires Burn In Or Near Sunol, Benicia, Vacaville, Port Costa, San Mateo County

SUNOL, Calif. (KGO) — If you saw thick smoke in the sky Thursday afternoon, you’re not alone. ABC7 News follows the Scenic Fire, the Canyon Fire, the Benicia Fire, the Timm Fire, and the Edgewood Fire. Here’s what we know about several wildfires burning in or near Port Costa, Crockett, Sunol, Pleasanton, Benicia, Vacaville, and San Mateo County.

Picturesque fire

Authorities in the East Bay have released Port Costa “all free” after a rapidly progressing 108-acre bushfire burned dangerously close to homes.

All evacuation orders have been revoked and firefighters will remain on site all night to work on complete containment. The fire has been contained by 50%.

According to CAL FIRE, aircraft at the scene during the height of the fire reported “irregular behavior”.

Canyon Fire

Officials say progress has halted on a 71-acre bushfire near Sunol and Pleasanton. The fire, which is 10% under control, is burning on the ridge between Fremont and Pleasanton, according to the fire department.

In an interview with ABC7 News, a CAL FIRE official said there is a threat to transmission lines.

All evacuation orders for Kilkare Rd. in Sunol and Golden Eagle Estates in Pleasanton have been closed.

CAL FIRE says the crew will remain on site all night to continue working on full containment.

Benicia Fire

Forward progress has stopped with this fire burning near the Valero refinery.

Benicia Police tweeted The following: “Our Public Safety Dispatchers are receiving overwhelming reports of the grass fire at Corte Dorado near the Valero refinery. We are aware and @BeniciaFire is on the scene. Follow @BeniciaFire for the latest updates on the situation.”

The city of Benicia tweeted“Because of wildfire smoke, people in sensitive groups, such as people with heart or lung disease, the elderly, children and pregnant women should limit prolonged outdoor activities. Consider keeping doors and windows closed. If cooling is needed, turn to recirculation mode.”

Timm Fire

This fire is burning near Vacaville.

According to CAL FIREThe fire was originally 39 hectares, but has since been reduced to 26 hectares and is 80% under control. Forward progress has stopped. Firefighters will work in the area for the next few hours to contain and extinguish the fires.

Edgewood Fire

CAL FIRE says the blazing 20-acre Edgewood Fire in San Mateo County is now 95% contained. All evacuation orders have been downgraded to six-alarm fire warnings.

PG&E has filed an incident report with the California Public Utilities Commission out of an abundance of caution over numerous media investigations following this fire.

According to an incident report filed by PG&E with the California Public Utilities Commission, CAL FIRE collected PG&E equipment from the Emerald Lake Distribution Circuit near the Edgewood Fire.

The report says the equipment is about half a mile from where the fire initially started.

When we contacted PG&E, the spokesperson did not immediately comment on the incident report and said the cause of the fire is still under partial investigation.

Tesla Brand

CAL FIRE says crews are responding to a vegetation fire that broke out in the Tesla Road and Corral Hollow Road area in a remote area of ​​Alameda County, 18 miles southeast of Livermore.

Officials say the fire is now about 300 acres with 10% containment.

The fire brigade will remain on site until Thursday evening while they work on complete containment.
